Indio Holiday Motel has recently been acquired by a large motel chain, Santiago Motels. The motel is in a state of disrepair and also has a poor online image, based on a preliminary look at online review scores. Santiago Motels has hired an external company to oversee a project on renovating the premises. This company will evaluate the status of the building and facilities, including the pool, make a proposal for repair and renovation, and once approved, oversee the project until its completion. In making changes to the motel, they would still like to keep on as many of the current staff as possible. They have hired your company, ABC Consultancy, to oversee this project. You are the point of contact and the leader of the project. Santiago Motels has asked you to investigate service and staff related issues at the motel and to make a proposal as to how they can be improved. If the proposal is accepted, you will oversee the implementation of the project.
You are in the preliminary stages of your investigation. Your investigation has three parts. You will start with online reviews of the motel and identify major issues for customers. Based on this, you will send out online questionnaires to past guests and conduct group discussions with current staff members. Once you have analyzed your data, you will make a concrete plan for how to address the service and staff related issues at Indio Holiday Motel. You will write this up as a report. At this point, you have only managed to look at online reviews. You already have some preliminary ideas about the issues and solutions you could suggest. Yesterday, Santiago Motels asked you to provide a brief update on the project by email; they would already like to have an indication of the issues and possible solutions. You still have two months to deliver the full report.
Your task is to compose an email update for Santiago Motels. To complete this task, you will need to read through online reviews of Indio Holiday Motel, identify the major service or staff related issues, and develop preliminary solutions. Write an email in which you inform Santiago Motels of the status of your project. Provide them with a brief overview of your findings so far and your tentative recommendations. Inform them of your continuing plans for the project. Your email should be both formal and respectful in tone.
