BACKGROUND:
At the hospital interview, WELLS told Detective Brown a completely different account of what was thought to have happened to Winter JONES at Lincoln High School.WELLS also provided reasoning for his actions and gave possible suspect information regarding the human trafficking of JONES. Some investigators jump to conclusions based on one witnesses’ statement or after a partial review of the evidence. Video is powerful evidence, but must be placed in context and backed up by other evidence at the scene. This does not mean that the original assessment (WELLS is guilty) is wrong, but a conclusion must be reached incorporating his statement, either disproving it or corroborating and agreeing with it. Detective Brown has to review all the available evidence and determine if WELL’s statement changes her mind about his guilt.
